Credentials of principal Terry Hyland
 
Thirty five years in the architectural profession and building industry, predominately in wood and timber detailing, design and construction. 
 
Seven years service as Technical consultant with TRADA (Timber Research and Development Association); activities -
 
Provision of design advice to the construction industry and design professions including award winning Architectural practices on aspects relating to best practice in timber construction and wood detailing.
 
Preparing and delivering talks and CPD (Continuous Professional Development) presentations to Architectural practices large and small, Architectural schools, Construction companies and national seminars.
 
Carrying out defect inspections, preparing diagnostic reports, at times developing remedial solutions and overseeing the works up to and including sign-off for; private individuals, Construction companies, Architectural practices, Warranty organisations (NHBC) and Construction solicitors (Expert witness reports).
 
Assisted senior consultant Architect and author Patrick Hislop and prepared illustrations for TRADA publications ‘External Timber Cladding’ and ‘Wood Windows, designing for high performance’.
 
Collaborated with technical consultants and authors Huel Twist and Robin Lancashire of TRADA publication ‘Timber Frame Construction’.
 
Carried out technical assessments of specialist ‘Green’ Oak fabrication company construction systems.
 
Prepared technical guidance publications.
 
Practical carpentry, joinery and building skills. Knowledge that includes four self build projects, a period of NHBC registration and several years operating a specialist timber construction  company. Skills are maintained through regular completion of one off minor projects and utilisation of a wholly owned joinery workshop facility.
 
Qualified Architectural Technologist with 2D & 3D CAD proficiency.
 
City & Guilds technical and craft qualifications.
 
Affiliate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects – RIBA
 
Long term member of the Association of Environmentally Conscious Builders – AECB  
 
Past collaborator with Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) consultant Architect Patrick Borer resulting in design & construction of a low energy timber frame home.  
 
‘PassivHaus’ design proponent, trained and holder of PassivHaus Planning package 2007.
 
U value and condensation risk analyser and holder of appropriate software.
 
‘Green’ Oak, Douglas fir and Larch timber construction specialist. Expertise gained through designing and self building low energy post and beam houses and six years working with numerous Oak framing specialists.
 
TRADA trained and qualified visual strength grader to British Standards of Softwoods and temperate and tropical Hardwoods.
 
Experienced Architectural practitioner – Design process, RIBA plan of work, Town Planning applications and appeals, Building Regulations applications, production of working drawings and specifications, Contract administration – JCT Contracts, Adjudication and operations on-site.
